Speaking of morbidity...

I want to share my favorite Japanese short story with everyone. For now, here's the Japanese version. I plan to translate it in sections over time, and submit it (somewhere...) for publication.

Below is a sentence-by-sentence first draft of the opening. Of course, this is meant as nothing more than a pedantic exercise, since I have no intention of pretending the order can be maintained in the final draft.

Beneath the Cherry Trees
KAJII Motojiro

Beneath the cherry trees lie dead bodies!

Trust me, I tell you. "Why?" you ask? Surely you must agree that it's unbelievable that the cherries should blossom so exquisitely. I've been troubled for two or three days by that improbable beauty. But now, I've finally got it: Beneath the cherry trees lie dead bodies. Trust me.
