Mary W. was nice enough to stop by this afternoon for lunch. She was one of the teachers when Tomomi took English at Penn's language school, and she's also my father's friend from the neighborhood in Philly—or was it dancing...?
She brought gazpacho (delicious! thanks!) and I made pesto with the basil from the market yesterday.
After she left, I got to work fixing up the girl's bikes we picked up for free in Lancaster. I began by dissecting them and examining the parts for excessive rust and wear. Determined that the chain on the more rusted of the two bikes was not salvageable. But other than that, both bikes seem to be in decent condition, so I began sanding off the rust and paint to repaint them. Tedious. Time consuming. But kinda neat.
When finished, one will be for Noah (black with Dora the Explorer stickers), and the other Tomomi's (color and motif TBA). It's a fun project, and I hope they'll both be done this week or next.
The moving truck finally comes tomorrow. Somwtime between 5:00 and 8:00 PM. At least they're cheap, because both pickup and delivery are at exceptionally inconvenient times.
That reminds me—gotta get a money order tomorrow!
On 9/8 (Sat) we're probably all going to a combo welcome-farewell party for the Japanese contingent of Tomomi's religious group's Philly chapter. Our friend, Chie, who lives in Reading and has a daughter a few years older than Noah, is on the sponsoring committee, so she called to invite us. Tomomi is to be welcomed, I guess.
The following day, Noah and I will participate in the Bike Philly event. Hope to meet some cool people and not to get rained on too much or anything.
